Georgia Youth Summit

It's that time again....

Time for the 2012 Georgia Youth Summit!

 


The Georgia Youth Summit is
a statewide leadership conference for teams of youth and adults, sponsored by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

The Summit is designed to prepare the next generation of Georgia leaders by providing youth with knowledge, resources and encouragement to create positive change in their communities.

The primary objectives of the conference are to:

  1. Create an awareness of state/local issues.
  2. Enhance youth-adult partnerships on the local level.
  3. Equip youth to become active locally in the betterment of their community

When is Youth Summit?
UPDATED SUMMIT DATES-This 2012 summit will take place September 8th-9th at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, GA. This year, the conference has been shortened from 3 days to 2 days.
Registration will start at 10:30 am and the opening assembly will start at 1:00 pm, on Saturday the 8th.
The Summit will conclude at 3:00 pm on Sunday the 9th. Overnight accommodations on the 7th will be available, based on need (distance from Rock Eagle).

Who Can Attend?
This event is open to current 8th-11th graders who are interested in making a difference in their community. The Summit is open to members from all youth serving organizations. Each county is asked to bring one team to Youth Summit.

Adult Chaperones
Adult chaperones should be 21 years of age, complete the Georgia 4-H overnight chaperone training certification, and provide required documentation for the UGA College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences screening process.

As in the past, each county will receive scholarship for 4 youth and 1 adult to attend the Summit. Counties may bring additional youth or adult delegates for $60, space provided

How Much Does it Cost?
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs provides scholarships for 4 youth and 1 adult from every county in Georgia. Scholarships cover meals, lodging, educational programs and recreation activities. Teams consist of 4 students and an adult chaperone.

Additional scholarships may be available closer to the date of the Summit.

Contact your County 4/H & Cooperative Extension Office by dialing 1-800-ASK-UGA1.
Your call will be automatically routed to your local office.Or, you can click here for more information on your County Cooperative Extension Office. Use the "Search By County" option for complete contact information. Registratio will open April 16th and will remain open prior to the conference.

 

Steering Committee
We are no longer accepting applications for the Georgia Youth Summit Steering Committee. Steering Committee members will be announced by February 20th, 2012.

This committee will be composed of students and adults who will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating the entire event. They will have many tasks including developing a theme, workshops, assemblies, and follow up activities.
